Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) at Lawrence Sheriff
The Careers Program at Lawrence Sheriff is developed and revised on an ongoing basis so that the program can endeavour to fulfil the Department of Education’s Careers Strategy (released December 2017) which outlines the Gatsby Benchmarks as comprehensive guidance for all schools when delivering careers related learning and activities.
An overview of the program offered to students
- A tailored program of events is planned every year for Years 7 to 13.
- All students in Years 7 to 13 take part in ‘Future Me’ tutor time careers activities. Students receive an age-appropriate careers learning activity during their designated sessions. These sessions take place once a fortnight on a Wednesday.
During these activities we follow the CDI’s (Career Development Institute) Career Development Framework which allows students to explore the framework’s 6 elements:
Grow throughout Life, Explore Possibilities, Manage Career, Create Opportunities, Balance Life and Work, See the Big Picture.
We also enable students to develop key Employability Skills through a range of resources and activities, which include off timetable events, presentations, and assembly talks.
- Year 11 students receive a one-to-one Career Guidance appointment, delivered by a CDI registered Career Development Professional (RCDP). As part of this appointment all students receive a personalised Action Plan, which will help them to focus on their Post 16 options.
- Modern Work Experience - A designated period (3 weeks) is set aside for work experience in July each year. This normally takes place for Year 11 after GCSE exams.
- Students in Years 10, 12 and 13 are also encouraged to take part in work experience throughout the academic year as and when possibilities arise.
- All students also have access to a wealth of virtual work experience (VWEX) options, and we have developed a strong relationship with Medic Mentors and Futures for All.
- Years 12 and 13 have a comprehensive programme of Careers related activities in the Sixth Form. Please refer to the Sixth Form pages or contact the Sixth Form staff.
Further to the program all students can access individual, impartial and independent careers information, advice, and guidance from Mrs Warde and all students and parents/carers have access to the National Careers Service helpline, which offers comprehensive information via their Careers Adviser Team. Students and parents/carers can access this service via the information below;

Careers Resources
All students in Year 7 to Year 13 have access to a wide range of paper resources relating to careers via both the main school library and the Sixth Form Centre library section.
All students also have in school and home access to recommended websites that can provide free of charge independent and impartial careers guidance, advice, and information. Theses websites include National Careers Service, Amazing Apprenticeships, National Apprenticeship Service, Prospects, UCAS, Not going to Uni, and Barclays Life Skills.
Unifrog: The school has invested in this independent and impartial careers package for students to use in school and at home. This system offers students the opportunity to explore careers provision independently, as well as within directed group sessions.
Partnerships
We regularly interact with local companies and business professionals who assist us with the delivery of various careers activities. We have working partnerships with The Careers & Enterprise Company (CEC), Amazing Apprenticeships, CWR, Shire Leasing, our own Alumni network, local colleges and universities and the Careers Development Institute (CDI).
In addition to this we are part of the Warwickshire Careers Hub, this partnership gives us a designated Enterprise Coordinator and an Enterprise Advisor. All these partnerships enable us to deliver a broad range of CEIAG across all year groups.
