Introduction
Business is a popular subject choice at AS with a large number of students opting to studying this at both AS and A2. We are housed in the purpose-built Sixth Form centre. Classrooms are large and well equipped, offering television and video facilities.
AS Business Studies
Unit 1- Planning and Financing a Business
This unit introduces the course and it provides an overview of the activities involved in setting up a small business and essential financial concepts.
Unit 2- Managing a Business
The second unit builds upon the concepts learnt in unit one. However, the key functional areas of a business are investigated. The focus is on finance, people in organisations, operations management, marketing and the influence on competition.
A2 Business Studies
Unit 3- Strategies for Success
This unit will cover financial strategies and accounts, marketing strategies, operations strategies and human resource strategies.
Unit 4- The Business environment and managing change
This unit will focus on the mission, aims and objectives of a business, as well as looking at external influences and managing change.
Structure of the qualification
There is no coursework component for this course. Unit 1 will be assessed in January of year 12 and unit 2 in the summer examination period. If students continue with business they will take unit 3 in January and Unit 4 in the summer.
This course will give students an understanding of the world of business and will help them to develop the skills necessary for studying a variety of subjects at university. A number of our students have gone on to study Business, Economics, Social Sciences as well as International Business and a language.
Entry Requirements
Students should have a B grade in both English and English Literature a grade B would also be desirable Mathematics.
